The site of an 1866 battle between the Shoshone and Crow tribes. Legendary Shoshone leader, Chief Washakie, proposed to Big Robber, the Crow chief, that they fight a duel to settle the dispute. Chief Washakie prevailed; legend has it that he carried Big Robber’s heart on his lance.
